Perfect for early summer – ginger, strawberry, basil

Gin, strawberry, basil

One of these days I’m going to make a drink without ginger. Today is not one of those days. I’ve done several versions of this drink and all have gone over well. Nearly everyone loves this drink, so it’s great for parties. I’ve got a few variations after the recipe:

Gin, strawberry, ginger, basil

1.5 oz. gin
.5 oz. simple syrup
1 oz. fresh lime juice
Fresh ginger
Fresh basil
Strawberries

Vigorously muddle 5-6 rounds of fresh ginger with the simple syrup in a mixing glass. Add 4ish leaves of basil and 2 sliced strawberries and muddle again (this time only lightly bruising the basil, allowing the flavor to release). Add lime and gin and shake with ice. Strain into glass over ice. Garnish with strawberries and basil.

Variations: Ditch the gin and replace with about 2x as much champagne and stir instead. This makes a great cocktail and also a great punch. Or top with soda. Or use mint instead of basil. Or in combination with basil. Use ginger syrup instead of fresh ginger. Yum. I’m having this one right now.

A) I love you.

B) We need to figure out this “doing something together” thing.

C) I like this variations bit… roll with it. And in the same spirit, or rather without spirits entirely — how many of your cocktails play friendly to the virgin crowd? Do you test in that strain? Just saying. (Obviously mixes using such wonders as peach infused vodka would need a bit more tweaking, but nothing a little juicer action couldn’t cure, I’m sure.)

P.S. — You should be proud of me for posting a comment with proper punctuation and capitalization. This is a rare treat, indeed.
