About
I love using fresh, seasonal fruit in my cocktails. I love gin, bourbon, tequila, rum and beer. I love making drinks at home for my friends and trying new drinks at great bars. I happen to live in a cocktail wonderland (Portland, Oregon), and love it here.
By day, I’m a freelance graphic designer and a budding food photographer (forgive my experiements). By night, I’m a drunk. Just kidding! Sort of!
WARNING: Consume alcohol responsibly. Sometimes a well-made cocktail goes down way too easily. Sip, my friends, sip. I say this because of a comment left on my blog: “This drink made me piss my pants in front of my fiance’s family, the first time I met them.” Maybe I have succeeded in life, after all!
I’m a total dork and you’ll love me.

Dear Nick’s Readers: I can personally attest that even before he decided to really hunker down and master the art of fine cocktail-making, Nick knew how to mix a damn fine drink. In fact, I don’t think I have ever been to his house and NOT requested he make me something.
Now that he’s gotten all fancy with his fruits and syrups and cocktail shakers and measuring and studying recipes and buying mini bottles of really expensive booze, I dare say it would be nigh impossible for him to steer you wrong.
In other words: hells yes, you’ll love him. I know I do.
Bitchin’ site, Nick.
Came over from TK this morning and although I thought The Plantation sounded wonderful, I then found the bourbon-ginger-pear thing…oh, yes!
Re Rum…since you have or make ginger syrup…maybe your take on a Dark and Stormy (Rum and Ginger Beer) would get you started. Cheers!!
Great site! Just made the plantation and love it! We are in slc also and was shocked to see you are too! Happy mixing!
Thanks, Melissa. I hope you stop back again soon!
Nick, I was perusing your blog and impressed by your beautiful photos and creative, fresh recipes. Then I read about the the LOCAL high west vodka and was so pleased to discover that such a sweet blog was coming out of my home town. Way to represent!
Thank you, Loren! Glad you like it.
Just like you, I’m a graphic designer who loves cocktails. Congratulations, amazing blog!
So Nick, what’s your favorite classic cocktail? What’s you go to cocktail on a weeknight?
It depends on the season! During the summer, I prefer gin drinks. In the fall and winter I love bourbon, whiskey and dark rum. If I’m not motivated to make a cocktail, I’ll usually just drink whiskey on the rocks.
I too design things graphically and wildly enjoy a good drink. Cheers, Nick, and keep it up. I already shared you with friends. (What a ho, right?!)
Thanks, B! I love that you shared with your friends. Thanks!
Nick, You moved? Shoot! Best of luck in beautiful Oregon and come visit the bar next time you’re in town.
Hi Nick, just letting you know that you’ve gained a steadfast fan here in Australia (uh, where the kangaroos are from) as I am pretty much addicted to Hendrick’s gin and I love the amazing range of fruity gin cocktails you’ve created on here!! Just one question: cos Hendrick’s is pretty unique, would you suggest altering anything in your recipes to accommodate it & show off it’s subtle flavours? I usually do the basic cucumber, lime, tonic, ice. Hm. Boring in comparison! Thanks heaps and keep up the good work (drinking, that is. And writing about it to help us drink too).
Laura, I’d just try the recipes as is with the gin. If you’d like to showcase the flavor of the Hendrick’s more, I’d just add more gin!
Your site has no become my go-to for cocktails! Great job! Please keep going.

Too drunk to type, apparently.
Just stumbled on your site. Nice work. Not sure if you’ve been there but we just came back from Tales of the Cocktail, you would enjoy it. Cheers!
